istorya-istorya’s first in-person event at Genever Bar in Historic Filipinotown.  The event paired recipes inspired by personal stories of each istorya-istorya collaborator with unique craft cocktails. Through diasporic perspectives, these dishes pay homage to Philippine history, with reference to Manila-Acapulco Galleon trade route, Filipino and Mexican farmer solidarity, and family fiestas.

I created a jackfruit carnitas lumpia with a mole dipping sauce, paired with a strawberry & bell pepper dish to represent the history of my dad’s relationship with his coworkers + amigos that worked in the strawberry fields with him on the Central Coast.  The research for this event is inspired by the Manila-Acapulco Galleon, which helps narrate the confluence between Filipino and Mexican ingredients and recipes.
