Shoreline Project

Shoreline Project is a 1000-person community project based upon Elizabeth Turk's body of work, titled Seashell X-Ray Mandala Series. The seashell mandala image has been transferred to the canopy of 1,000 umbrellas and lit by an LED shaft. These sculpted umbrellas will be carried by community participants along Laguna's Main Beach at sunset. Viewed from the cliffs and filmed from above, the image will be one of 1,000 beautiful lights moving together.

CARLON will be performing at 6pm and 7:30pm. The event is free, but be sure to RSVP and arrive early to get an umbrella!

This community experience is hosted by the Laguna Art Museum, for the fifth annual Art & Nature program.

The event takes place November 3, 2018, on Main Beach, Laguna Beach, CA.

Out of Bounds

OoB3.1.jpg

Join us for "Out of Bounds," Annenberg Community Beach House Choreographer-in-Residence Jay Carlon's new site-immersed work. This performance will range from the Beach House to the shore and back; please wear walking shoes and layers for sun/wind. The performance features dancers Christopher Bordenave, Jay Carlon, Isaac Huerta and Samantha Mohr, with music by Alex Wand.

Out of Bounds engages with geopolitical boundaries and the contrast of the Pacific Ocean at the Southern California shore with other shores all over the world, including those of Greece and Turkey. Jay Carlon examines borders as sites of trauma and possible healing, as well as how moving together can become a call to action.

Carlon has been working onsite since July. Trace his progress on the Beach House AIR blog.

OUT OF BOUNDS

Sunday, Oct 8, 5pm-6:30pm

If you can't make the showcase, there are two opportunities to catch the two dress rehearsals: Friday, Oct 6, 5pm-6:30pm & Saturday, Oct 7, 2pm-3:30pm

The Broad: Summer Happenings, Basquiat

Summer Happenings at The Broad ends the season with an homage to Jean-Michel Basquiat. Punk meets hip hop, gay meets straight, black meets white, and downtown party meets uptown art world— influences that made Basquiat the man he was. Zebra Katz and Downtown Boys provide a musical clash of punk and hip hop. DJ Rashida and Michael Stock turn The Oculus into a downtown dance party. Mecca V A and The MOVEMENT movement and Jay Carlon offer choreographed interventions and “dance-bombs.” Shani Crowe’s performance is centered on cultural coiffure and beauty ritual related to the diasporic African, and Damon Locks will present a sound piece based on themes found in Basquiat's paintings.

SATURDAY AUGUST 26, 2017 4-7PM WITH TIMED TICKET ENTRY AT 4PM, 5PM, AND 6PM

TICKETS

We are thrilled to invite you to join us for homeLA's 18th performance event this summer at the home of Alexandra Mathews and Sam Mantell on Saturday August 26th, 2017. Seven artists along with their collaborators have been working to create new site-specific performances and interactive installations in and around this sunny apartment complex near the Larchmont neighborhood. "The Way Light Moves Through" not only describes the visual quality of the home - the way light pours through windows, peeks through walls, and changes so subtly during an afternoon - but also points to the ways in which artists have been responding to the site during warm summer days of physical and conceptual explorations.

homeLA // Larchmont: The Way Light Moves Through will be a durational performance where audiences can roam freely.
