Alex Wand // composer + musician
Alex is a Grammy Award-winning musician and composer based in Los Angeles. He has performed at venues and festivals from California to Tibet such as REDCAT, MicroFest, the Bootleg Theater, and the Xinghai International Poetry Festival. Alex performs as a solo artist and in Desert Magic and Partch. He often collaborates with filmmakers, dancers, and coders, to create music scores that involve his interests in just intonation, sonification, folk music, and and sound art. Originally from Detroit, he studied music composition at the University of Michigan and at CalArts with composers Bright Sheng, Michael Fink, Ulrich Krieger, and Wolfgang von Schweinitz.
Samantha Mohr // rehearsal director
California native Samantha Mohr is a body-based artist, choreographer and certified yoga instructor. She has collaborated as a performer with Jay Carlon, David Roussève, Laurel Jenkins, Rebecca Bruno, Nina Waisman and Flora Wiegmann | LEI, No)One. Art House, Lionel Popkin, Julien Prévieux, Victoria Marks, Elizabeth Leister, Maria Garcia and Alexx Shilling. Currently creating between Los Angeles and New York City, Samantha has performed and presented shared works at REDCAT, the Annenberg Community Beach House, Highways Performance Space, LACE Gallery, the Los Angeles Municipal Gallery, Hammer Museum, Honor Fraser Gallery, Pieter Performance Space and The Women’s Center for Creative Work. She holds a BA in World Arts and Cultures/Dance from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Ching Ching Wong // dancer
Born in Manila, Philippines and raised in southern California, Ching Ching Wong began her dance training at age three at Allegria Dance Theater under the direction of Dr. Alia Harlan Kaneaiakala. After graduating with a BFA in Dance Performance from the University of California, Irvine, she began her professional career with Northwest Dance Project in Portland, Oregon where she was with the company for seven seasons. Ching Ching has most recently been recognized by Dance Magazine as 25 to Watch and was awarded The Princess Grace Award in Dance. She is founder of international touring dance workshop, The Experience and Project Salamat, a global dance-based outreach program. She is also assistant to Swiss choreographer Ihsan Rustem, restaging his work throughout Europe. As a freelance dancer, Ching Ching has worked with SALT Contemporary Dance, Heidi Duckler Dance Theater, Katie Scherman, LED, and with violinist-looper Joe Kye. Ching Ching and Jay went to UCI together and joined forces again in 2019 for FLEX.
David Castillo // actor + baritone
New Orleans native DAVID CASTILLO serves as Narrator and Co-producer of Jay Carlon’s FLEX. Previously in the dance world, David partnered with Luminario Ballet for a danced production of Schubert’s Winterreise, the American Contemporary Ballet in Le Fate In Italia, and Mojacar Flamenco for Romance Sonambulo. David resides as an inaugural Company Member of The Industry, recently appearing in Hopscotch, Bonnie and Clyde, Galileo, Nimbus. As a soloist with the LA Philharmonic, he performed in Bernstein’s Mass with Gustavo Dudamel, the world premieres of Theatre of the World and War of the Worlds, and John Cage’s Europeras 1 & 2. As a producer, he created Seven Deadly Sins and Innervisions:revisted, and produces William Nedved and recent Project Runway winner Kentaro Kameyama’s fashion opera The Passion of McQueen, also starring as Lee “Alexander” McQueen. Highlights include The Cleveland Orchestra for Pelléas et Mélisande, New Orleans Opera in Carmen, Paris for Schubert’s Winterreise, in two episodes of America’s Got Talent, and in the upcoming Double-CD release of David Rosenboom’s Deviant Resonances on Ravello Records in March 2019. He graduated with honors from USC and Loyola New Orleans.
