embodiment + collective care

Masterclasses, workshops, and guest lecturing specifically tailored for each community (dancers and non-dancers alike). I work with individuals and groups to integrate healing modalities of breath, meditation, and imagination into their lives and physical practice. I do this in dance studios, theaters, classrooms, online, in kitchens, and in public spaces.

CURRENT OFFERINGS:

—> queering technique, reclaiming space, decolonizing the body

This class is a synthesis of my evolution and [re]discoveries as a movement artist navigating the white-contemporary artworld as a queer, colonized body. We will focus on integrating attunement of external influences (architecture and space) with internal sensory embodiment. Participants will be asked to privilege imagination, tap into cellular awareness, practice doing-and-undoing, and rediscover primal presence and awareness.

—> The Body as a Site

Sensitivity to energy, self, others, space. This workshop looks at both the body and space for compositional awareness to develop site-specific considerations for new work.

Jay has worked with communities at Pieter Performance Space, UC Irvine, CSU Long Beach, UCLA, Allan Hancock College, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Scripps College, American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Santa Monica College, Renaissance Arts Academy, homeLA PLACE-MAKING, Stomping Ground LA
